The Veil/Chapter 1- In this panel Satrapi conveys the use of veils through text features and layout. The author used a caption to inform the reader that students had to wear a veil. The author also used foreground to display the idea even further by demonstrating what looks like to be an authority figure telling the kids to wear the veil. Another element the author used is background which showed all the students who had already entered the school wearing the veil.

The Bicycle/Chapter 2- Graphic weight and text features are used to display how the society is and who is saying this. Tonal difference is used to display what the people saying this is wearing to show us that they are soldiers. External dialogue speech bubbles are used to explain to the reader how the revolution works.

Persepolis/Chapter 4- Text feature here shows how the society was forced to live with nothing. In this external dialogue speech bubble Marjis grandmother explains how she was poor because of Reza Shah. This gives us the information that when the man of the household went to jail, that everything they had would be taken away because that's what Reza Shah wanted.

The Letter/Chapter 5- Text features and layout are shown in this panel showing us that it was hard for people to accept that different social classes couldn't be together. External dialogue speech bubbles were used here so that Marjis father could explain to her that it their society a lower class men and upper class men couldn't be together because it was "impossible". Using a mid-ground lay out the author shows the anger in Marjis face pertaining to the information she had received from her father.

The Party/Chapter 6- Here text features and layout show how the citizens wanted the Shah to be dethroned. The caption here tells us directly that all the people wanted was for him to be gone. Special effects show the word "OUT!" that are thought to be said by them people because they are ready for him to leave. Mid-ground is used to keep us drawn to everything happening at once.

The Heroes/Chapter 7- Using text feature the author informs us on the way the community worked within jail. The external dialogue speech bubbles are their friends from jail telling them the torturous things that occurred while they were in there. They informed us on who the people were that tortured them and how they knew how to do it.

Moscow/Chapter 8- Text features and layout shows us that families were torn apart because they went to jail. people have been released from jails reuniting people as shown in the mid-ground. In the caption it talks about how Marjis grandmother and Marjis uncles have been able to see each other again since the release.

The Trip/Chapter 10- Here text features are used to tell the viewers that universities will be closed in order. External dialogue speech bubbles says that the universities will be closed in order to revise them making sure that students aren't led astray from the "true path" of Islam. The caption informs us that the universities happened to be closed for 2 years.

The Jewels/Chapter 12- The community is falling apart due to the shortage in food because of the war and this is proven by layout and text features. The captions are specifically telling us that they are arguing over the food because of the high demand. The foreground and background provides extra support within the actions of the women fighting over the box.

The Key/Chapter 13- In chapter 13 the author conveys how school played a role in the war using text features. The caption shown to the left, tells the reader that in school girls were told to make winter clothing. That clothing was used for the boys, who were also in school, being prepared to go into war to become soldiers.

The Wine/Chapter 14- Text feature and layout was used in this panel to display that the use of "fun" items were banned. The caption tells us many of the items that were illegal were in possession of Iranians. The external dialogue speech bubbles explains the force that the officers used on the people of which the items belonged to. The foreground shows the officers shoving the people into the car.

The Cigarette/Chapter 15- The text features in this panel describe how students naturally broke rules without hesitation. The external dialogue speech bubbles tells us that Marjis friends decided to skip school and get burgers rather than going to physical education. They obviously had no problem doing it and have most likely done it before.

Kim Wilde/Chapter 17- Here two different types of text features and layout were used to display The Women's Branch in action. Caption explained to us who The Women's Branch was and what they did. An External dialogue speech bubble was used to show the women stopping Marji in order to complete his job. Foreground was used to show what the women's appearance was and they way Marji was dressed so we could understand why they were stopping her.

The Shabbat/Chapter 18- In this panel text feature and layout were used to show us that families were being killed and people became hurt because they were losing their neighbors due to the war. Caption was used to show how Baba-Levy's house was destroyed and they were inside causing them to die. Foreground was used to show the disappoint and sadness within Marji and her mother. It was also used to show how the Baba-Levys house was tore down.

The Dowry/Chapter 19- Text feature and layout shows that because the borders were open everyone started to leave their country. The caption in the first panel tells us that many people were leaving the country for various reasons. The caption in the second panel tells us why the boys were leaving the country which was because they didn't want to have to go into war. The foreground in the second panel shows just how many people were actually leaving.
